How I did it

After many years of being obese my journey started at the end of November 2007. It has taken me on various roads of trial and error but most importantly it has taken me on roads of satisfaction. It has become a journey of monumental importance to me.

I have learned that to care for myself is very important to my success as I‘m worthy of my dreams. I’ve showed myself that I can make time one of the things I always thought I didn’t have. Looking at my before photos, the “Fat Pat” I wish I had taken the decision to start the journey and to finish it many years ago.

Oh yes, I’ve often started the journey but I’ve never come close to finishing it. My journey in the corporate world would have been so much easier if I had taken care of myself many years ago.

I’m worthy of my dreams

The road was often bumpy with many ups and downs, is this not what life is all about? Right through life we find success, failures and stressful situations in almost everything we do. Often we get distracted and don’t stay focused.

I have enjoyed the journey, even those side trips that made it longer. You never know when an opportunity will be at your feet and it might just be on one of these side trips. Most importantly enjoy it. If you do not enjoy what you are doing you will not be able to complete it as you won’t stick to it. So often we give up before it becomes joyful. If you had to ask me what I enjoyed most of all it would be the compliments. Every compliment I received took me back to basics, “commitment”.

  • I planned my journey and knew my destination
  • I was never alone on my journey
  • I listened, asked questions and challenged
  • I stayed focused
  • I did it!

My first reaction to Pat's achievement was just complete awe! I couldn't believe the transformation I saw in her - I was blown away. It's very seldom that you meet someone who is able to achieve a really remarkable goal, because life just seems so much easier when we keep to the safe confinement of our comfort zones. However Pat is one of the very few people I know who is never defined by limitations. Pat faces a challenge and through sheer perseverance and dedication doesn't falter in her drive to succeed.

Because of her positive attitude, she does it all with a smile as well. I try to learn from everything I experience in life - and consider myself fortunate to know someone like Pat, who is truly an inspiration.
